True Balance Therapeutic Massage is here to provide you with a pathway to reconnecting mind and body. In an age of technical, and at times impersonal medicine, therapeutic massage offers a drug-free, non-invasive, and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself.

What is Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic Massage as a healing tool has been around for thousands of years and in many cultures. Touch is a natural human reaction to pain and stress, and for conveying compassion and  support. think of the last time you bumped your head, or had a sore calf. What did you do? Rubbed it, right? The same was true of our ancestors.

There is evidence that massage was employed by the chinese for more than 3000 years ago, there is also evidence that since ancient times massage has also, been practiced by the Hindoos and Persians, even the Greels and Roman's. Hippocrates, the renowned Greek physician, made extensive use of this mode of treatment, and was understood to have had a great deal of success with it's treatments for that time in medicine.

Healers throughout time, and throughout the world have instinctually and indpendantly deveolped a wide range of therapeutic techniques using touch. Many are still in use today, and with good reason.

Today we have scientific proof of the benefits of massage. Study upon study have shown benefits ranging from treating chronic diseases and injuries to alleviating the growing tension of our modern lifestyles.

Having a massage does more than just relax your body and mind. There are physiological and psycological effects that occur, even more so when massage is utilized as a preventative, frequent therapy and not simply a mere luxury. Massage is much more than a feel good experience, it's a pathway to reconnecting the body and mind.

What is a Massage like?

With the understanding that every "body" is different, we tailor each session to the specific needs and comfort level of the individual.

Each session begins with an assesment of your medical history, address any areas of pain or tension, and design a massage treatment to acheive the desired outcome of your session.

Many of our sessions will use a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, as well as Positional Release, Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy Techniques, Trigger Point Therapy, Hot and Cold treatments, Reflexology, and Aromatherapy to adress your needs on an individual basis.

Things to consider

Removal of your clothes during therapeutic massage is not necesary, though some techniques are limited due to the restrictions of clothing. Some clients do undress competely, while others wear shorts and a loose fitting shirt. It is strictly up to the client what they would like to wear during a massage. Your therapist will provide you with privacy while you prepare for your massage, and you will be covered by a warm sheet during your session, only uncovering parts of the body as they are being massaged.

It is important inform your therapist of any discomfort you experience before, during, or after your session so adjustments can be made accordingly.

Some Therapeutic massage techniques may cause some discomfort during or after the massage, but it's important to know the difference between a constructive (good hurt) and destructive (sharp) pain.

Drinking plenty of water after a massage can help to alleviate some of the muscle soreness associated with some types of massage, as it helps to flush out any impurities released from your body during the massage.

Massage is not for everybody! Some medical disorders are contraindicated (not recomended) for massage. If you are unsure if massage is the best choice for you, talk to your doctor as well as your massage therapist to learn more about what therapeutic massage can do for you.
